The Glasgow recycles project is a multi partner project carried out in 2008, developed as a practical model of sustainable development which enabled Danone Waters to reach beyond its packaging obligations into the arena of producer responsibility, to this effect the project was designed to not only deal with Glasgow's away from home waste problems but to provide training and job opportunities for some of Glasgow's most disadvantaged residents.

Delivering zero waste will require both physical and systems infrastructure, including structures for delivering waste prevention and business resource efficiency. This workshop will outline WRAP Scotland's work and resource efficiency approach, including capital investment in organics, plastics and construction waste reprocessing, business support programmes and waste prevention and market development programmes.

What can companies do with 'difficult wastes' that don't have established outlets? Nigel Holmes of NISP Scotland will give recent examples of 'wastes' that have brought back into beneficial use by working with specialist reprocessors in Scotland to recover materials that can be reused by other companies. Using the industrial symbiosis approach can give cost reductions as well as the environmental benefits that support progress 'Towards Zero Waste'.
